In our densely populated world, environment and public health are high on the list of priorities. This means that the emission of odours and volatile chemical combinations must be kept to an absolute minimum.


Many new laws have been introduced in order to guarantee this quality of life. Increasing numbers of industries are taking action independently within the framework of ISO 14000. The objective is to keep emissions below the limiting value, in an efficient and affordable manner, before they are released into the environment.

HVR has developed a technology which satisfies this norm. This is FF-AR, a product comprising a biologically-degradable, harmless fluid. FF-AR binds odour molecules (encapsulates) so that they are no longer noticeable and can eventually be filtered out of the air flow.

In diluted form, an extremely fine mist of FF-AR is introduced into the gas exhaust system or chimney. Odour molecules and/or molecules consisting of volatile chemical combinations come into contact with the mist droplets.


Scientific research has shown that molecules in the gas phase move approximately one million times faster than aerosols. Because of this a high frequency of collisions occurs.

As a result of these collisions the molecule is captured in the water phase of the droplet. Depending on the gas molecules these links can remain in existence for a few hours up to several days.
We distinguish the following captured molecules as: Odour and Hazardous combinations.

By encapsulating the molecules we can differentiate between the following groups of captured molecules:


Because odour molecules are captured in a complex of other molecules, the energy distribution c.q. electron distribution in the molecule is different, or certain specific groups within the molecule are masked. Because of this the reactivity necessary to bring about an interaction with the odour-sensitive cells of the mucosa olfactoria in the nose is lost. This means that the whole is perceived as being 'odour neutral'.

Should the odour molecules be regarded as non-toxic they can be easily filtered out of the formed complex. The filter technique for the removal of odours was developed by Twente University and HVR Milieumanagement. This technique is suitable for an odour reduction of approximately 65 to 85% and has been checked by various measurement/calibration authorities both here and abroad.

Hazardous combinations

In the case of the involvement of exclusively hazardous substances, the droplets in which these substances are in solution can be captured. HVR possesses the correct techniques for filtering these droplets out of the air flow in an efficient manner. This method allows the adapted condensed fluid to be disposed of as chemical waste.

FF-AR has proved itself in the most diverse treatment areas, such as for organic acids, aldehyde, sulphur compounds, hydro-carbons, etc. The concept of FF-AR is based on the fact that it possesses 'polar' and 'apolar' groups which react on similar groups.
